William McKinlay

Father James McKinlay & mother Mary McNeil. William was born 21 September 1841 Cambusnethan Lanark Scotland. He was about 3 years old when his mother died age 25 years on 11th December 1844. 

The 1851 Census has William aged 9 yrs, his sister Margaret age 7 yrs  living in his fathers household with his second wife Elizabeth age 32 along with their only son James age 1 yr.

In 1861, age 19 years William was a coal miner working at Faimrgare Colliery in Hamilton Lanarkshire. He boarded with Alexander and Janet Greason.

William emigrated to Nova Scotia and became a gold miner. He later moved to Utah, Nevada and last known contact was Virgina City California. He died age 70 years on 11 November 1911 in Sonoma County California USA.

He married Sydonia Burrows and they had 3 sons - James McKinlay born 3 August 1868, William McKinlay born 20 August 1871, Edward McKinlay born 1874,  all born Nova Scotia Canada. Sydonia McKinlay born 1844 died February 5th 1899 in San Francisco USA, she was age 55 yrs 7 months and 7 days.

McKINLAY - In this city, February 5, 1899. Sydonia, beloved wife of William McKinlay, and mother of James, William and Edward McKinlay, a native, of Nova Scotia, aged 55 years 7 months and 7 days.
The funeral will take place this day (Tuesday) at 2 o'clock, from her late residence, 645 Wisconsin Street. Interment private, Mount Olivet Cemetery. Please omit flowers.

(1) His son James married Grace Wright also known as Grace Conover Bardwell in 1930 Portland, Multnomah Oregon. Grace was born 6 March 1871 San Francisco County California. Her father was George Bridman Bardwell and mother Eleanor Davis Conover. Grace died 16 July 1934,  Portland, age 63 yrs. *McKinlay at this stage is also known McKinley. 
James died 25 September 1949 age 81 yrs. He is buried Mountain View Cemetery Oakland Alameda County California USA with his wife Grace.

James and Grace had the following children:

William E J McKinlay (Snr) married Marie Alphonsine Chouinard born 22 June 1901 Port Daniel Bonaventure Quebec.  They married 5 September 1925 Marin, she was aged 24.  Their children were James Francois born 1926 and William Edward James (Jnr) born 1929. William E J  (Snr) born 1897 died from a brain tumor at the Oceancrest Care Facility in Rockaway Beach California USA in 1963. His wife Marie died 1994 in USA.

Little is known about James Francois McKinlay born 27 July 1926 Alameda County California USA. He enlisted 07 February 1945 for Military Service WW2 as a Private. He married and divorced 14 February 1984 San Diego California USA. James F McKinlay died 8 May 2011 age 84 yrs and buried Section ( General Daniel Morgan Veterans Cemetery) GDM VET Plot 2 Mount Hebron Cemetery Winchester Virginia USA. His wife Naomi Ruth McKinlay born 6 September 1927 died 24 December age 75 yrs buried in same plot with him. Susan Marie McKinlay born 27 April 1955 died age 54 yrs on 3 May 2009. She is buried Section K Plot 2098 along with Dale E McKinlay died 22 December 1952.

William Edward James McKinlay (Jnr) known as Bill born 13th June 1929 Alamada County California died 13 July 2005 age 76 in Beaver, Tillamook County Oregon. Bill married Mable June Cooper November 29 1956 in Carson City Nevada.

William Edward James McKinlay Jnr born 13 June 1929 in Alameda County California died 13 July 2005 in Tillamook County Oregon. Son of William Edward James McKinlay & Marie Chouinard, son of James McKinlay & Grace Wright son of William McKinlay born circa 1840 in Scotland. 

OBITUARY Bill McKinlay
William Edward James McKinlay Jr. was born June 13, 1929, in Alameda, Calif., to William E.J. McKinlay Sr. and Marie Alphonsine Chouinard. He died from a brain tumor July 13 2005, at the Oceancrest Care Facility in Rockaway Beach.

Bill married Mable June Cooper Nov. 29 1956 in Carson City Nev. They moved to Beaver in 1977. Bill served with the Army Air Force and the MSTS in his early years, and received an honourable discharge.
He also was a retired truck driver. He drove for Thompson Bros. while living in California, and later drove for Noble and Bittner Plug Mill in Hebo.

He was an avid fisherman, spending many hours along the Nestucca River. He was involved in Black Powder Gun shooting, loved cutting his own firewood and driving around with his pet dog, Aurora, by his side.He was pretty much jack of all trades. He was exceptional at carpentry work. He made many of his own outdoor bird feeders and other animal wood cuttings. Bill was a humorous man and always loved to hear a good story or tell one.

The family wishes to extend its gratitude to his caregiver, Paul Vaughn, who was so compassionate and caring of Bill during his last five weeks of life.

Bill is survived by his wife of 48 years, June of Beaver, his daughter, Debbie Mendes and her husband Bob of Truckee, California, two grandsons, Christopher J Herrera of Sacramento, Califor., Toby M. McKinlay of Clackamas, and granddaughter, Dina M. Herrera of San Leandro, Calif. Bill is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Marcus, Kyle, Sherelle and Maxx, and extended family members, Ed and Debbie Hodgdon of Beaver.

A memorial will be at a later date. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to either Tillamook Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

His widow Mable known as June is buried with him. She was born 15 September 1929 died 11 January 2016 age 86 yrs. She was a resident of Manteca California at the time of her passing.

Update:DEBBIE DOYLE MENDES 53, passed away, 5/21/06, of complications due to various medical conditions. She was a graduate of Marina High School "Class of 1970 ". Debbie is survived by husband, Bob Mendes, mother June McKinley, stepmother Lori Buchanan, best friend Wanda Moreno, son Christopher Herrera, daughter Dina Herrera, three grandchildren, Sherelle, Marcus, Kyle, sisters, Leslie Sain, Jennifer Lemos, Karen McDonald, Allyson Coulter, her brother Ted Doyle, many nieces and nephews plus other extended family and numerous friends. Debbie was loved by all who knew her. Her smile, giving heart, and upbeat personality will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held on Sat. June 17th, 2006 at Bethel Community Church 14235 Bancroft Ave San Leandro Ca 94578 at 11:00 a.m. A reception hosted by the family will follow.

(3) Edward McKinlay born 22 March  1874 died 6 November 1961 age 87 yrs in Santa Clara California USA. He married  Alice Palmer Baston in 1897. She was born 30 April 1876 San Francisco and died 25 August 1925 age 49 yrs. Their daughter Sarah Sydonia McKinlay born 13 April 1900 married William Leppla Irvine Sr on 11 September 1925. Her husband born 30 January 1899 San Francisco died 10 December 1989 age 90 in San Jose Santa Clara County California USA. Sydonia Irvine died 18 December 1998 in San Marino Los Angeles California USA. Their children - William Leppla Irvine jnr, Alice M Irvine and Robert Irvine born c1930.
