Mary was born 25 November 1855 Bothwell Lanark Scotland.
Mary McKinlay, spinster of Ferry Road Christchurch New Zealand married Henry Paton, engineer & bachelor residing Dunedin on 23 February 1880. They were married by Rev. Charles Fraser Vicar of St Andrew's Presbyterian at The Manse with John Newlands, Engineer and Elizabeth McKinlay (her sister) as witnesses. Henry was 29 years of age & Mary 24.
Henry and Mary had 6 children - Henry born 12 February 1881 , Edward John born 24 November 1882, Mary born 27 October 1884, Robert James born 18 September 1886, Grace Gibson born 12 February 1889, Elsie born 1895.
Life with Henry took Mary and their family to Oamaru & Dunedin where they finally settled. Mary became a widow in 1920 and continued to live at Maitland Street where she died in 1941 at the age of 85.
Henry, Mary & daughter Elsie are buried in the same plot Southern Cemetery Dunedin New Zealand.
