Elizabeth McKinlay was born 14 February 1864 Hamilton Lanark Scotland.
After arriving in New Zealand in 1874, Elizabeth joined her eldest sister Mary in Christchurch. When Mary married in 1880, Elizabeth was a witness to the marriage.
She married on 28 April 1882 in Christchurch New Zealand to Osmyn Hope Kirby. He was born 23 January 1853 Glanmorgan Kent England. His father was Henry Kirby and mother Margaret Partridge.
Elizabeth's daughter Alice Mary Kirby was born 1 January 1883 at Lyttelton New Zealand died age 27 years on 26 August 1910. She is buried Linwood Cemetery Block 33 Plot 155 with her mother. Alice lived in Sumner and was a Nurse.
Elizabeth's son Henry Austin Kirby was born 30 May 1887 Christchurch New Zealand married Helen Camelia Johnston born 2 September 1884 Nelson. Their son Austin Warren Kirby born 12 February 1915 in Masterton New Zealand married Grace Kathleen Ellis born 24 January 1918 Woodford West Ham. A son Ronald Austin Kirby was born 9 May 1941.
Elizabeth died age 47 years on 4th September 1910 and is buried in the Linwood Cemetery. Block 33 Plot 155. She lived Sumner and was a housewife. She died of pneumonia and along with daughter Alice may have been a victim of the 1910 Spanish Flu epidemic
Her husband Osmyn Kirby died age 72 years on 5 July 1925 and is buried Linwood Cemetery Block 33 Plot 157.
Osmyn was a Railway Driver and last residence was 75 Ranfurly St Christchurch.
There are living descendants of this McKinlay/Kirby line in - North Island New Zealand.
