'Gulf Explorer' 1983-4

The Gulf Explorer carried passengers between Auckland and Great Barrier Island in the summer of 1983-4, possibly other summers before and after, but nevertheless, it was for a brief period.

The ship anchored or hove-to away from the wharf at Fitzroy and passengers were transported between the ship and wharf in the ship's lifeboat.

Here is a link to the entire history of the ship, not always called the Gulf Explorer. Quite an interesting history.
