Jackson started her life as the sloop Aqualass and was built in the Ellerslie yard of Mr Ford in 1951. She raced several times to Fiji.
Sometimes during the 1980s she was purchased and stripped and Alan Mummery was employed to redesign her.
Roger Moore, the current owner, purchased her in 1995.
She had survived a fire, deliberately set by an irate wife who was sick of the hull sitting in the back yard (luckily the fire brigade were passing by after attending to a fire
down the road and were able to save the hull), a ten year abandonment in a car wrecker’s shed, an attempt to redesign and stretch the hull at the Onetangi Pub on
Waiheke Island and doubtless other incidents as well.
The Moores had the hull and woodwork professionally completed, and the yacht re-rigged and changed her name to Jackson. They claim "she is the slowest boat we have had, but the most enjoyable".
