New Year News:
The holiday rush is over - but that doesn’t mean things are slowing down!
I hope this newsletter finds you well and rested after the holiday season. As always, it is scary how fast a year flies. The new year is the perfect time to begin again and rekindle that new school year energy that seems to slip away by late October. Energy is going to be a requirement with all there is to accomplish this month.
First, students will be taking the NWEA tests in reading and math the week of January 9th. Scores from these tests will help make RtI (Response to Intervention) placements for the third trimester. It is so important that students see these tests as part of their academic success; they are not random or completely disconnected from our daily studies. All I ask is that students try their best and take the tests seriously.
Second, we will be starting up again on writers’ workshop. It is almost time to tackle the dreaded research paper. I am determined to break the process down into easy to manage steps so it is both an interesting and fear-free process.
Third, students will be taking on an additional ten minutes of reading each night in an effort to prepare them for the next grade level. Please remind your student that time management and planning is key. Some days are crazier than others, but by planning ahead to read extra on weekends or on less demanding school days, students shouldn’t have a problem with the additional ten minutes.
It is going to be a busy, fast paced month! If there is anything I can do to help make it less stressful for your student, please let me know. As always, if you have any questions, comments, concerns, or ideas, please feel free to email me at email@example.com.
Drama Club Coming!
I am excited to announce the formation of South Bristol’s very own drama club! Knowing the many talents, abilities, and occasionally theatric tendencies of the students in grades 5-8, I am eager to introduce students to the excitement of the limelight. Students who participate in this after school activity will take part in all aspects of the theater - from designing sets and costumes to writing scripts and performing in front of live audiences. Look for sign up forms in the coming week. Parent volunteers will be most welcome as we get this program underway!
