Dear FCS Families,

Happy first day of fall! It will not feel like fall for a few more days, but our gardens aren’t complaining. Please note that it will be very warm on Monday and Tuesday so be sure to send water bottles with your students. By the end of the week they’ll need jackets in the morning. Gotta love the weather in Vermont!

Come try slime and delectable treats!  Buy books and clothing all for a great deal! It will be a fun night and a great way to raise funds for those that need it most. We are really proud of the FCS students that wanted to make a difference and spent many lunch periods with Mr. Brooks planning this event.

This week we welcomed Erin Ackerman to FCS (and ACS) as our library media specialist. Erin grew up in Burlington and attended St Michael’s college. She also spent a year in New Zealand as a high school student. We welcome her to our FCS community!

PTO met for the first official meeting of the year. The room was filled with enthusiastic parents that have planned family fun events and educational supports for the FCS community. There is still time to get involved. The next meeting will be held on Monday, October 16. It’s wonderful to see so many families supporting our school. Officers for the 2017-2018 year were elected.

Please feel free to approach any of the officers with questions, concerns and ideas. They can be contacted through email at fcspto@gmail.com.

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT OPEN HOUSE - SEPTEMBER 27 !! Prior to the open house, members of the ANWSD Community Engagement  Committee would like to gather input from families about the roll-out of the new unified school district vision statement. This vision statement was a 9 month project and created from input shared with our committee by students, families, staff, faculty, school administrators and community members in our five towns. To carry this collaborative vision forward the committee will now focus on deepening the conversation by asking for input on what this new vision means to each of us as we move forward as a unified district. Please plan to arrive by 5:30 so you too can participate in this important conversation.

Spelling Bee Info

Does your 5th or 6th grader love to spell?  If so, the spelling team may be just what they are looking for!  On Wednesday, September 20th  all of the 5/6 students were invited to try out for the spelling team.  Those interested took home a list of words to study.  There will be a spelling try out on Monday, September 25.  The top 6 spellers will make the team and participate in a local spelling bee.  If they do well, we move on to regionals and possibly even states!  Although we wish we could take all of our enthusiastic spellers, the Vermont Principal's Association who sponsors the bee has guidelines we need to follow.  If your student brought home some words to study over the weekend, please lend them a hand in preparation for Monday's assessment.  Our local bee will take place during a school day in October.  Practices will happen during lunch and maybe some after school times! Stay tuned! A Huge thank you to Ms. Elson and Ms. Driscoll for co-coaching this effort.
