3. The App Store

The App Store is were the real fun begins!
Using a teacher account you may download free apps to test out.  You may request use of our iTunes card to purchase a single license app.  To purchase a class set (20) you will need to put in a request for the app to be purchased using our volume purchasing agreement.

To investigate new apps on your iPad, touch the icon for the App Store.  Something to consider right away is that there are iPad apps and iPhone/iTouch apps.  Both will run on your iPad, but your iPhone is not able to run iPad apps.  If you load an iPhone app on an iPad, it may appear small like the iPhone. You will see a 2X on the bottom right side of the page.  Click this an it will make the app fill the screen.

At the bottom of the screen, you will notice buttons to find:

Featured - Genius - Top Charts - Categories - Purchased - Update

Most of these are obvious.  Genius is cool as it examines what you currently have loaded and makes recommendations for additional apps that you might find valuable.  Update is very important and, if you see a number next to it, touch it and choose to "Update All" to keep everything running smoothly.

When you are in one of the first four choices, you can also type a term in the Search box in the upper right hand corner of the page.  In the beginning, look for "lite" versions of apps to try them out for free.  Once you are ready to try out an app, touch it's picture and it will open a full page about the app.  Read over the information and most importantly, roll the page up to get to the bottom and read the reviews.  Most people are pretty tough on the app developers so it is typically useful information.  This is even more important if you are paying for an app.

When you are ready to load an app, simply touch the gray box under the picture that says the price or says "FREE".  It will turn green and say "INSTALL APP".  Touch it again and enter the password.  It will take you to a page on your iPad and you can watch it load.  You will see a bar at the bottom of the app slowly fill up.  When it is done, typically in less than a minute, you are ready to open the app and try it out!  That's all there is to it!
