The picture to the right is from The Book of Kells, the subject of my novel Kells: A Novel of the Eighth Century. The Book of Kells, one of the oldest extant Dark Age manuscripts, was created on the Island of Iona around 800 AD.

The Society for Creative Anachronisms showed me how to make iron gall ink in the manner that it was made a thousand years ago. I consulted 50 books, and visited Iona twice. I highly recommend the Mull Magic tour for the wild islands of Western Scotland.

My other novel is Disorder, a psychological thriller. When Wendy's roommate Diana disappears one night in a snow storm, Wendy is determined to solve the mystery. But as a victim of mental illness, she must sort through the clues while battling her own increasingly paranoid mania.
