Startup Bus Presentation
5th April, 2012
Time: 10.30am - 11.30am
Location: AmCham Meeting Room

Startup Bus is a mobile training center that will bring loans, trainers, mentors, technology tools and office infrastructure to marginalized Jordanian communities. The Startup Bus will provide a “one stop shop” that will offer these services to unemployed and out of school youth, marginalized women and entrepreneurs in rural areas. It will be agile and able to quickly identify and travel to communities in most need and subsequently develop programs to match these needs. It will provide separate training tracks to rural youth, women and entrepreneurs, both current and aspiring. The Startup Bus is built on partnerships with some of Jordan’s leading development organizations and will use an innovative model to bring capacity building and financial services throughout the country.

The initiative requires a total investment of 60,000JD and will launch in late April. The pilot program will cover the rural areas outside of Irbid, and program coordinators hope to expand quickly. The Startup Bus will focus on keeping all costs and investments local, and hopes to find employment for at least 20% of participants, half of whom will be women.

For more information about the Startup Bus program, contact Jamil Wyne at jamil@injaz-arabia.org.

World Economic Forum: Special Meeting on Economic Growth and Job Creation in the Arab World

October 21-23, 2011

"Recent shifts in the Arab world coupled with an economic contraction at the global level have created a new urgency for decision-makers across the region: the need to address the fundamental conditions required to revive growth and support human development.

Now more than ever, it is critical to match employment, entrepreneurship and education prospects with the aspirations of young populations. This has clearly become a key in the decisions taken by government, industry and civil society in the Arab world.

To respond to these apparent and urgent imperatives, the World Economic Forum will convene a “Special Meeting on Economic Growth and Job Creation in the Arab World” at the Dead Sea, Jordan.

Bringing together the GCC countries, Levant, Maghreb and international community, this Special Meeting will focus on best practices in economic policy and reform and elaborate concrete ways in which all stakeholders can drive positive outcomes across the region."
