Wednesday, September 15th Message from Mr. Bumann:
“I am disappointed to inform you that both the elementary and middle high school have seen an increase in positive covid cases, as well as cases of close contacts. In order to allow our teachers time for preparation to instruct our quarantined students, school will be dismissed one hour early beginning Monday, September 20th, until further notice.
Thank you for your understanding on keeping our students and staff safe.”
Monday, August 16th
THE ALWOOD BOARD OF EDUCATION AGREED TO FOLLOW THE GOVERNOR'S MANDATE. ALL PEOPLE ENTERING ANY SCHOOL BUILDING OR USING SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION MUST WEAR A MASK UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
AlWood will follow the guidelines recommended by the Illinois Principals Association's legal counsel:
"For students without masks: Do not allow the student to attend classes or events. Do not force the student to wear a mask in opposition to their parent's directive. Require the student to remain in a safe and supervised area (with social distancing) until a parent is contacted and reliable transportation home can be arranged. Note, this is not a disciplinary removal from school. In most cases it will be an unexcused absence due to the parent failing to follow the rules in sending their child to school.
For staff without masks. Staff should be given the choice of complying with the mask mandate or leaving the building. Follow your collective bargaining agreement and district policy manual in terms of process and consequences.
For school visitors without masks: Do not allow these individuals to enter the building. Law enforcement should be called, if necessary, to assist with compliance."
AlWood Staff Vaccine Guidelines
The wording of the Governor’s Executive Order requires vaccination for all school personnel unless one can opt out for medical or “sincerely held” religious belief reasons.
Steps to Follow for all AlWood School Personnel:
Proof of Covid vaccination cards must be submitted to the school nurse no later than Friday, 9/3/21 at 12:00 p.m.
If proof of Covid vaccination is not submitted, a copy of your negative test results must be submitted to the building administrator upon arrival to the building on Tuesday, 9/7/21. A negative Covid test must be submitted upon arrival to the building on the first school day of each week, until proof of full vaccination is provided.
Those employees who have submitted either a medical or religious waiver will need to follow the weekly Covid testing protocol.
Tests may be conducted through a testing site or through home testing kits.
Our hope is that we will be able to conduct in-house testing starting 9/27/21.

2021 - 2022 School Year Breakfast/Lunch Notice
During the 2021 - 2022 school year, AlWood will be operating our food service program under the Seamless Summer Option (SSO) as approved by the USDA. This means all students attending AlWood CUSD #225 will be eligible for free breakfast and lunch meals daily.
** ATTENTION **
Governor JB Pritzker announced an Executive Order on Wednesday, August 4th, 2021. His announcement supports safe in-person learning and requires that masks be worn indoors by all teachers, staff, students, and visitors in Pk-12 schools, regardless of vaccination status.
The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and ISBE will issue updated guidance to reflect this change. For more information, it is encouraged that the Governor’s press conference is viewed.
