The guidance staff is honored to help Alton students and their families navigate academic, personal and social development during the high school years.
Our goal is to build partnerships that allow students to identify their strengths and weaknesses, explore interests, make appropriate course selections, and develop post-high school plans.

This web site provides a wealth of information to achieve these goals.  Click around the navigational panel to the left to see what resources are available.  Please let us know if we can offer assistance or if you have feedback to share.

Call (618) 474-6900, fax (618) 463-2092 or contact the guidance staff directly.
Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 3:15 p.m. or by appointment.

Getting Started

For those just joining Alton High School and/or the guidance process, here are a few tips to get you started:

  • Check out the New Alton High Guidance webpage, it's one of the best ways to keep on top of what's happening at Alton High School.  Also check out The Daily Bird announcements for up to date information about school activities.
  • The Guidance Staff page tells you who your guidance counselor is.  Be proactive, speak with us often!
  • The Course Description Guide explains graduation requirements, defines the different course levels, and provides individual course descriptions.  It's a great place to begin learning the ropes at Alton High School!

  • The Year-by-Year Timelines give you an overview of what to expect, from eighth-graders about to enter high school to seniors preparing to leave.
  • The Calendar will help you keep track of important milestones along the way; please view regularly for updates.
  • When life throws unexpected curves, please know our guidance staff is always here to support our students.  Please familiarize yourself with our Support Services resources.

  • The Enrollment Forms packet contains a checklist and the forms needed to enroll a new student in Alton High School. Available in the guidance office.
