Troy Instrumental Music

Avon Lake Band Aids will be sponsoring a half-priced lesson program that allows the us to offer private lessons to students in the Learwood and Troy Bands for half the typical cost of a lesson.

Students in grades 5-8 may apply for Half-Priced Lessons Scholarships that cover twelve weeks of 30 minute private instruction. We currently have professional musicians who provide lessons for flute, clarinet, saxophones, trumpet, french horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, and percussion. Private lessons typically cost around $20-$25 per half hour.  Families that are selected for the half priced lesson scholarship will pay half the cost of the lessons up front to the instructor.

This program is first come, first served with a limited number of available scholarships – so please get the application in as quickly as possible.  The lessons are  at the Avon Lake High School, after school hours, and at a time/day agreed up by you and the instructor.  The program will begin the week of November 6.

Having the skill to perform musical instrument has been one of the most cherished accomplishments throughout history. Students who decide to learn to play an instrument can use this skill and knowledge for the rest of their lives.

There numbers of academic and life benefits to students who study music. Studies have shown that learning to play an instrument enhances a student's academic performance in math, language arts, foreign language and other academic areas. Even standardized test scores such as the SAT have shown to be higher among musicians.

Students in music learn to think creatively and to solve problems by imagining various solutions. Music study enhances teamwork skills and discipline - in order for a band or orchestra to sound good, all players must work together towards a single goal.

Music study develops skills that are necessary in the workplace. It focuses on "doing," as opposed to observing, and teaches students how to perform.

Whatever the benefit, playing an instrument can bring joy and fulfillment like no other activity.
