CVJH Bands Victory at Music in the Parks 2018!

posted May 18, 2018, 9:14 AM by Todd Halversen

The CVJH Bands achieved a clean sweep at the Music in the Parks multi-state regional music festival 2018!

Of the 18 participating Jazz and Concert bands, Canyon View's Jazz Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony not only placed 1st in their respective divisions, but were also the 3 highest scoring instrumental ensembles as well.

CVJH was the only school at the festival to achieve Superior ratings for each of their participating music ensembles!

Of the 40 total performing music ensembles, including bands, orchestras and choirs, the CVJH Jazz Band was the highest overall scoring musical group at the festival with a "97" out of 100 possible points, while the Wind Symphony scored a "92", and the Symphonic Band right on their heels with a "91"!

Canyon View also received the best overall Jazz Band and Concert Band awards (including high schools), and Monique Reid, Canyon View Sax extrordinaire, received the best overall soloist award!

We are so proud of our Band students and all the hard work they put into learning music and performing their guts out. Thank you parents most of all, for all of the support you give us! We love you and could not do all that we do in Band without you.

May 9 Orem City festival

posted May 6, 2016, 12:02 PM by Barry Roberts

You should have all been told by now, a few days ago, Ray Smith, head of Jazz studies and director of Synthesis at BYU personally invited the Canyon View Jr. High school Jazz Band to play at the Orem City "Celebration of the Arts festival", this coming Monday night, May 9th. The school has not only approved the activity, but will be sponsoring a bus to take as as well.  This is a great opportunity to show Orem City the phenomenal things our kids are doing here at Canyon View, and get some well-deserved public recognition as well.

The bus will be here at 5:45 for us to load, and we will leave for the Orem city center at 6:00pm.  We will return to CVJH at 8:00pm.  Thank you for your support!

Music in the Parks Reminder

posted Apr 13, 2016, 5:46 AM by Barry Roberts

Just to clear up any confusion - the bands attending the Multi-State Music in the Parks Music festival are 1)Symphonic Band  2) Wind Symphony and, 3) Jazz Band.  There is no Beginning Band division.

Secondly, I will be accepting Music in the Parks payments until Thursday, April 28th.  This is the absolute latest I can take payments, as we need to mail the check to the festival directors by Friday the 29th of April.   The cost is $75 for students, and $33 for chaperons.  If you are planning to be a chaperon, please come see our financial secretary, Kim Richards, as we need to complete a background check for each of you no later than May 10th.  If you can't remember if you have paid, please feel free to email me.

We are very excited for the Music in the Parks festival, I'm certain our students will represent us well!  All three performing groups received Superior ratings at the Alpine District band festival this year, and I am proud of the work they have done and are doing. Thank you for your continued support of the band program!

This year's festival with be held on May 14th in Layton, Utah, followed by a day at "Lagoon" theme park in Farmington, Utah.  Canyon View's Jazz band and Wind Symphony are the current festival reigning champions, and we are excited to represent the community, district and state again.  Please print, sign and return the permission slip below.  If you do not have access to a printer, do not worry as I will be sending a permission slip home with the students as well.  Lastly, we usually take between 15-20 chaperons with us, so if you are interested, we need both drivers with SUV's and bus-riders as well, so please check the appropriate box on the permission slip. And note whether you can help us by driving or riding.

The bus for Bravo students will depart Canyon View at 7:15 am.  The bus for band students will depart Canyon View at 7:45 am.  All groups will return at approximately 10:45 pm.
