Welcome to AP World History!
The purpose of the AP World History course is to develop greater understanding of the evolution of global processes, contacts, and interactions of different human societies. The course begins in 8000 C.E. and continues through the present. We begin with the evolution of human civilizations and use that foundational understanding as a basis for understanding the increasing encounters and interactions between societies. Emphasis will be given to comparisons between major societies, development of international trade networks, causes and consequences of major movements, and analysis/interpretation of historical evidence.
The course is organized by dividing the world’s history into 4 time periods for the purpose of analyzing global events and interactions. The main objective of the course is for students to develop and demonstrate an enduring understanding of the “big picture” of world history and connect history to the current state of affairs in the world.
