Teacher and Classroom Background

My name is Margaret Platten and I am thrilled to be starting my sixth year teaching first grade at AACA in Room 207! I love to teach first grade and see the amazing growth of my students throughout the year. I enjoy fostering a love of learning in young students and creating a vibrant classroom community based on faith. I strive to make my classroom to be a place of both learning and fun. To achieve this, I am committed to using best practices in teaching, differentiating to help each student meet his or her goals and integrating technology!

I grew up in Wisconsin and attended Marquette University. I'm currently working towards a Masters in Literacy and Specialized Instruction at DePaul University. When not teaching, I can be found spending time with friends and family, reading a good book, or enjoying the best of both Chicago and my hometown, Milwaukee! We are so lucky to have Ms. Kelsey Nelson join Room 207 as an assistant teacher this year!

My name is Kelsey Nelson and I am so excited to begin my first year at AACA as an assistant teacher! I grew up in a small town in the Northwest corner of Iowa and came to the Chicago area for school. I completed my Bachelors of Arts at Trinity Christian College in Theology and Church & Ministry Leadership in 2011. Outside of school, I love to read, knit, run, and spend time in the kitchen, as well as explore the city of Chicago with friends.

I have worked with children in a variety of settings, including after-school programs, Christian camps, and church programs. I currently serve at a small church in Chicago as the children's director, where I organize curriculum and plan lessons.

I am so looking forward to my first year at AACA and in Mrs. Platten's classroom and the opportunity to learn and grow alongside her, as well as learning and growing with the students in Room 207!
