On Monday, March 9, 2015 the Algona School Board announced plans to begin development of a performing arts center with a goal of having the facility open by the fall of 2016.

The opportunity to begin development of a performing arts center became available as a result of an extremely generous gift of $5 million committed by Ed and Betty Wilcox over five years. “A performing arts center has been a community need for many years, and the planned facility will meet that need. We are very excited to be able to help this dream become a reality for our community,” stated Mr. and Mrs. Wilcox. $1 million of the gift will be placed in an endowment to support operational costs of the facility.

Pharmacists Mutual, Iowa Sate Bank, the Algona Community School Foundation, and the Ken and Vickie Kemna family have each donated $500,000 towards this project.
