I am a retired mathematics professor at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Most of my interests are related to (atmospheric) halos, and this website deals mostly with halos. But the site is not meant to be a comprehensive halos site; for that, see Marko Riikonen's Ice Crystal Halos and Les Cowley's Atmospheric Optics.

On this (my) site you will find:

Some halo photos.

pdfs of some of my published articles.

pdfs of some of my unpublished articles.

Information on my books:
Atmospheric Halos (1994)
Atmospheric Halos and the Search for Angle x (2006)

Except where noted otherwise, all halo photos on this site are copyright Walter Tape. Thanks.

22o halo at the start of the Yukon Quest sled dog race in 2008. The moisture source for the ice crystals seemed to be the spectators' breath.
