What does it mean to be a mentor?

The University of Alaska Fairbanks is currently working with mentor teachers in Fairbanks and with other school districts in Alaska, through a secondary teacher preparation program: the post-baccalaureate secondary teacher education program. The program culminates with a year-long internship in mentor teacher(s) classroom(s). The roles and responsibilities of a mentor teacher have changed over the last several years, and finding professional, positive, pro-active mentors to work with pre-service teachers is more important than ever.
