Instructions for M.Ed. in Education and Counseling Students

Registration procedures for distance graduate students in Education and Counseling — revised Spring 2010!!

Registration begins Monday, November 9, 2009. Classes begin Thursday, January 21, 2010. Last day to add/drop classes without penalty: Friday, January 29, 2010.

Are you a new graduate student admitted to UAF for Spring 2010? Registration instructions for first semester graduate students: All students will register through UA Online but first...

  1. Download and print your registration form from UA Online. http://uaonline.alaska.edu. Fill out with the guidance of your faculty advisor—in person, on the phone or via email. Your faculty advisor’s name was sent to you in your acceptance letter from UAF. Course information is on the UAF website . Distance students will register for FX sections of courses.
  2. Deliver (drop off or mail or scan and email) the completed form to the School of Education for advisor signature. After it is signed we will turn it in to the registrar’s office. You will not be allowed to web register until this form is received by the registrar’s office.

  3. Complete your registration and pay fees through UA Online . Turning in the paper form does not complete your registration; it only provides approval for you to register.
  4. Log onto Blackboard to access your courses and view the syllabi.
  5. Visit the UAF School of Education web site to obtain the audio conference numbers.
  6. Obtain book list from the UAF bookstore website . You may order your books through the UAF on line bookstore or from another on line bookseller. 

Are you a continuing (previously admitted) student who registered for a course in Fall 2009? Registration instructions for continuing graduate students:

  1. You do not need a signed registration form if you are a returning student in good standing but it is recommended that you discuss your schedule with your faculty advisor.
  2. Obtain special permission, if needed, by contacting the course instructor or the School of Education graduate advisor.
  3. Register and pay your fees through UAOnline .
  4. Log onto Blackboard to access your courses and view the syllabi.
  5. Visit the UAF School of Education web site to obtain the audio conference numbers.
  6. Obtain book list from the UAF bookstore website . You may order your books through the UAF on line bookstore or from another on line bookseller.

Are you a returning student who has been on leave of absence or has had a lapse in your enrollment? Registration instructions for returning graduate students:

  1. Contact the UAF School of Education Graduate Advisor: Jane Monahan, 907- 474-5362, jmmonahan@alaska.edu . You will likely need to reinstate to the graduate program, update your student status and/or obtain special permission to register.

Are you a non-degree seeking student who would like to take a class in Spring 2010 prior to being admitted? Registration instructions for non-degree seeking graduate students:

  1. If you have never attended UAF or if you haven't been enrolled in the past two years, you must complete a "Non-degree Seeking" application. Go to UAOnline , click on Apply for Admission, then click on New Students and follow the instructions for non-degree seeking students
  2. Obtain special permission, if needed, by contacting the course instructor or the School of Education graduate advisor.
  3. Register and pay your fees through UA Online: http://uaonline.alaska.edu.
  4. Log onto Blackboard to access your courses and view the syllabi.

General web registration directions Web registration process

  1. Once you obtain your advisor's signature and submit your registration form on the web (if needed), log in to UAOnline.
  2. Log on to the secured area using your student ID number and your PIN. Your PIN was originally set to your date of birth. If this is the first time you have signed on to the web, you'll be asked to change your PIN if you haven't done so already. Remember your new PIN and choose your security question wisely! It can be changed to any six alphanumeric characters.
  3. Select Student Services, Financial Aid & Account Information.
  4. Select Registration and follow the menu:
  5. Click Select Term (select the current term).
  6. Select Check Your Registration Eligibility (print your registration form, check registration eligibility, major, residency status, etc.).
  7. Look up courses to add: If you need to find a course to add, select Class Search. To assist your search, be sure to select UAF-Main Campus in the Campus field and select the subject. If you are looking for a specific course number, be sure to put an F in the first position of the course number (i.e., F101). Note: students taking courses by distance delivery will select FX sections—these sections are delivered via audio conference.
  8. Select Register/Add/Drop: To register for classes, enter the Course Reference Numbers (CRN) in the Add Class section. When you have entered all of the CRNs for your classes, press Submit Changes. Your current schedule will appear. If there are any errors, check the error message and then select Submit Changes to remove the error. NOTE: If you select "Error," you will find an explanation of the type of error that has occurred.
  9. When your schedule is complete : Select Complete Your Registration to tally your tuition and fees. Then select Student Detail Schedule to see the times and classrooms for your classes in a weekly schedule format.
  10. Variable Credit Class/Auditing a Class : If you register for a course that has variable credit or you want to audit a course, select Change Class Options . Enter the amount of credit you want. Press the Grade Mode menu and highlight Audit to select that option.
  11. Be sure to log out of UAOnline when you are done.
