The UAF Department of Computer and Information Technology offers certificate and associate degree programs through the IT Specialist program. The primary goal of these programs is to teach students how to use, support, implement, and troubleshoot computer and information technology systems.
The certificate program focuses on teaching students the foundation-level skills required to effectively use and troubleshoot computer and information technology systems. In addition, students completing the certificate program will be prepared for entry-level IT positions and to continue their education in the Information Technology Specialist associate degree program.
The associate degree program prepares individuals to implement, support, and troubleshoot computer and information technology systems and obtain employment as an IT professional. The following concentrations are available through the associate degree program:
The IT Specialist program also offers courses to help prepare for industry certifications. Degree seeking students can use these courses to meet degree requirements and non-degree seeking students can enroll in individual courses to help prepare for industry certification. Students entering either the certificate or associate degree program should meet with a faculty advisor to discuss program content requirements and develop an educational plan that matches the current skills and goals of the student.
