Research Projects

My research is interdisciplinary, and emphasizes the intersection of psychoanalytic theories of gender and sexuality with twentieth-century literature, film, and culture. I have published a book entitled Insane Passions:  Lesbianism and Psychosis in Literature and Film (Wesleyan UP, 2006) and articles on queer film and theory, Virginia Woolf's Orlando, James Joyce's Ulysses, and Franz Kafka's The Trial.  I also have articles on Monique Truong's The Book of Salt and Gertrude Stein's The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas forthcoming.

Right now I am at work on two different projects.  The first addresses the intersection of psychoanalytic, queer, and transgender theories;  the second examines masculinity in the work of the modernist writer Gertrude Stein.
