The SIAM Student Chapter is opened at University of Ngaoundere [www](Siam members)(B_VTech). Thank you for your help with your support and experience. ....................................EVENT !!!!!.................................. A MathComp4ALL workshop on February 2015, at Center for the development of ICT (University of Ngaoundere) SIAM and Math-Info CLUB (MathComp4ALL) 1. Introduction Nowadays computer science and mathematics are everywhere in sciences like Linguistic, Physics, Chemistry or engineering. But discussion between students and specialists of these domains are very rare in Africa. SIAM (Society of Applied and Industrial Mathematics), based in USA (www.siam.org), is a renowned scientific and nonprofit society that supports research on applications of mathematics and computers science. In Europe and Asia, SIAM encourages the creation of SIAM Student Chapter. SIAM Student Chapter of University of Ngaoundere is the first SIAM student Chapter in Africa. Its members are students of University of Ngaoundere aiming to promote interactions between users/students of computer sciences and mathematics and develop work on application of computer science and mathematics. With the human support of the club of students in Mathematics and Computer science and technical support of Department of Mathematics and Computer sciences, we organize on March 18, 2015 a workshop named “Math4ALL” with several scientists and students from different levels and backgrounds (Linguistic, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Sciences and Applied mathematics). 2. Goals (Please definitive titles are coming) Our goals focus on interactions between scientists from several backgrounds around Mathematics and Computer sciences. Specifically we will have six talks after first words of the Presidents of SIAM Student Chapter of Ngaoundere and President of Info-Math Club: • Presentation of SIAM student Chapter and Opportunities for graduate students (Kouakep T. Yannick, PhD Candidate); • Computer science as key actor in evolution of sciences in general (Dr Dayang, Senior Lecturer) • WINDUGO (TM) , phone keybords for cameroonian languages (Mr Téguia Bogni, Researcher at Cameroonian Ministry or Research / also PhD student in linguistics); • Mathematics codes and signs in African Languages (Mr Saa Kameni, Independent researcher and Artist); • Physics, models, computing and simulations (Mr Kenfou, Teaching Assistant); • Mathematical models and computing in applied chemistry (Mr Tatkeu, Teaching assistant with very soon a PhD defended) ; • Statistics: a powerful tool in engineering and biology (Mr Fotsa, Teaching Assistant). We expect to receive as guest Dr Dayang (Computer sciences), Mr Tchakounté (Lecturer), Dr Houpa and Dr Kamgang (Senior Lecturers in respectively Pure and applied mathematics). 3. Activities planned On March 18, 2015, we will follow this timeline: 11H00 - 11H10: Welcomes by Presidents of the SIAM Chapter and Info-Math Club 11H10- 11H 25: Talk N° 1 + questions: Presentation of SIAM student Chapter and Opportunities for graduate students. 11H30 - 11H50: Talk N°2 + questions: Computer science as key actor in evolution of sciences in general; 11H55 - 12H25: Talk N°3 + questions: WINDUGO (TM) , phone keybords for cameroonian languages; 12H35 - 13H00 : Talk N°4 + questions: Mathematics codes and signs in African Languages; 13H05 – 13H20: Talk N°5 + questions: Physics, models, computing and simulations; 13H25 – 13H45: Talk N°6 + questions: Mathematical models and computing in applied chemistry; 13H45 - 14H00: Talk N°7 + questions: Statistics: a powerful tool in engineering and biology; 14H: End of activities with a small cocktail. ...................ENTRY IS FREE ........................ The SIAM Student Chapter (SSC) of Ngaoundere is a young one. But its ambitions are great and old. Beside voluntary contributions of SSC’s members (at least USD 50) compulsory if we want to open a bank account (“an insured savings account,”), the USD 500 requested will help us to organize talks on works of students with emphasis on application of mathematics in biology, economy, computer sciences, applied linguistics, engineering and physics or chemistry. We expect to encourage many public organizations, NGO and Companies (e.g. in telecommunication/ software…) in Cameroon to use or present their uses of Mathematics or Computer science in the construction of materials (outputs in general), programs or mathematical/physical models for estimations of social or technical parameters.
