The African Speculative Fiction Society (ASFS) Incorporates as a CIC and Opens Voting for the 2025 Nommo Awards
London, UK – 23 October 2025 - The African Speculative Fiction Society (ASFS) is proud to announce its formal registration as a Community Interest Company (CIC) in the United Kingdom, marking a significant step in the organisation's growth and sustainability.
Founded in 2016, the ASFS brings together writers, artists, editors, and publishers of African speculative fiction-spanning science fiction, fantasy, and horror-across Africa and the diaspora. The new CIC status strengthens the organisation's financial transparency, governance, and ability to secure partnerships, grants, and sponsorships to further its mission.
This transition allows ASFS to raise funds and deliver a host of new activities that extend beyond the annual Nommo Awards, including:
Professional development workshops on publishing, copyright, marketing, and social media.
Creation of a comprehensive database of African speculative fiction works.
Member networking, advocacy, and fair practice initiatives within the creative industries.
Festival and academic partnerships to highlight African speculative storytelling globally.
"This is a transformative moment for ASFS," said a spokesperson for the ASFS "Becoming a CIC gives us the structure and resources to better serve our members, celebrate African creativity, and sustain the Nommo Awards and related programmes well into the future."
