Welcome to Sandown Bay Academy

I’d like to extend a very warm welcome to the Sandown Bay Academy website. Here at Sandown Bay, we take pride in the

exceptional care we provide for each and every student to achieve their very best. Our strong tradition of academic excellence and sporting success, coupled with a firm belief in the importance of good character and the development of confident, well-rounded students, ensures a richly rewarding experience and an excellent preparation for further education at university and beyond.

Our students have many varied interests, strengths and ambitions, and our mission, ‘To make our best better’, ensures that they aim high and achieve their goals. Our dedicated teachers and staff ensure that students have the very best support to succeed. Our pastoral system is second to none and provides each student with a Form Tutor who supports their progress and overall development.

Our School Council provides numerous leadership opportunities for students through the important role it plays in both the strategic and operational development of the Academy, while our House System provides fun, challenge and healthy competition.  There are many opportunities for parents and families to become involved in the wider life of the Academy; we pride ourselves on our warm and welcoming community.

Sandown Bay is a progressive Academy; we believe firmly in developing inquisitive, articulate learners who will cope with the challenges of the 21st century with confidence. We invest continually in our staff, curriculum and infrastructure to ensure that students leave us with the skills to compete in an increasingly competitive global economy.

Our campus is set amongst wonderful surroundings and we make the most of our environment and space to create opportunities for every student to thrive and experience success and happiness. I invite you to visit and take a tour with one of our student ambassadors to experience for yourself all that Sandown Bay Academy has to offer.

Principal's Blog

  • Principal's Blog - Friday 27th November I was pleased to hear that the group of Year 9 students who attended master class sessions at Southampton University on Monday were great ambassadors for the academy. The group listened to a motivational talk by History undergraduate; this was followed by a quest, led by a PHD student, to uncover the truth about the assassination of John F. Kennedy. The day culminated in a competition to present ideas from the day about the importance of transferable skills in the workplace. A special mention must go to Amie Jupe- the team leader, who responded confidently to some tricky questions from a Professor. Congratulations to our newest Honours Reader; Megan Hopkins in Year 7. Megan has gained over 100 points in ...

  • Principal's Blog - Friday 20th November It was great to see so many students at our Sixth Form Open Evening last night. Thank you to our Sixth Form student helpers who were fantastic ambassadors and really showcased what an excellent Sixth Form we have here at Sandown.   Year 11 students I hope you have used the development day today to do some revision for the mock exams which start on Monday (click here to view the schedule). These are important exams and once they have been sat staff will start the important task of analysing the papers to see which areas each student needs to focus on to improve and to ensure they reach their full potential when they sit their GCSE examinations in the Summer ...

  • Principal's Blog - Friday 13th November Sandown students paid their respects on Remembrance Day on Wednesday; there was a two minute silence at 11.00am. Sixth Form students laid a wreath on the War Memorial in South Foyer; this was particularly poignant since these students visited the concentration camps in Germany on their History trip earlier this year.  We also displayed some beautiful poppies and bunting made by students in technology lessons.   Students attending Japanese club have been getting to grips with Japanese 'Kanji' symbols and trying their hand at some 'Shodo' (Calligraphy) this week. They have been learning to write names and also started basic conversations in Japanese.  Students put on a spectacular show at ‘Sandown’s Got Talent’ last night; it was a fantastic ...
