We broadly follow the term dates set by Barnsley Council. However, this year we have altered the holidays to try and ease the exam pressure on children and teachers by extending the Christmas break by 4 days ad reduce the Easter holidays for 4 days (SATS prep time). We made the decision to place 5 of our training days after the May half term to help families with cost of holidays in school breaks with the other dates being tagged on tho the end of summer term to ensure an earlier finish for families. Pupil AbsencePlease phone our Academy office, ask to speak to Miss Vincent or Mrs Dalby on 01226 722153 leaving your child’s name, class and reason for absence. We would appreciate it if this could be done by 09:30am each morning that your child is absent. This avoids us having to take further action (including home visits) to ensure the safety of any child who is absent by alerting the Education Welfare Officers.
If you are having an issue with a child who is reluctant to come into the academy in the morning or has a chronic health problem that is making good attendance difficult, please speak with Mrs Dalby about this issue initially. We can provide you with support to assist and ensure that your child does not fall behind in their education.
Unfortunately, we are not able to grant any leave of absence during term time for pupils to accompany parents on their annual holidays. Holidays taken during term time are classed as unauthorised absence and this can lead to a substantial fine served against both parents. We only grant authorised absence during term time in exceptional circumstances and, if you feel that you may qualify for this please approach the head teacher initially to discuss. Leave of absence cannot be authorised retrospectively. Please note that if you go ahead with a holiday during term time when unauthorised, you may receive a fixed penalty notice issued through the Local Authority. Per child, this will be £60 to be paid within 21 days; payment after this time but within 28 days is £120. Failure to pay a fixed penalty notice will render you liable to criminal proceedings in the Magistrates Court under Section 444(1) of the Education Act 1996.
Timings of the academy day
F1 children will begin the day at 8.45 – 11.45am and 12.30-3.30pm (please use alternative entrance for nursery setting at the side of the Academy).
F2 children will begin at 8.45am – 3.15pm (please enter using the F2 door).
Year 1-6 will begin at 8.50am -3.15pm (all children to be greeted on their designated playgrounds).
If parents would like to speak to staff regarding their child, please come to the main reception where either an appointment can be arranged
or please wait to see teacher at the end of the school day.
FS2 and Upper school – 12.00pm - 12.45pm
Lower school – 12.15pm-1.00pm
We welcome children into F1 in three intakes over the academic year—September, January and Easter. Pupils will either attend for a morning or afternoon session five days per week. The morning session starts at 08:45am and the afternoon session at 12:30pm.
Children who are collected at the end of the day will only be released into the care of parents/carers, unless we are notified in advance by a parent that someone else will collect them.
In the extremely rare event that the academy has to be closed due to unforeseen circumstances or severe and extreme weather conditions then it will be reported via this website, Twitter, Facebook and Dearne FM.
We always do our best to keep the academy open but if we cannot guarantee sufficient staff to supervise the pupils or the roads approaching the academy are dangerous then we will have no option but to close.
All children (inc. nursery) are expected to wear the academy uniform. The academy uniform consists of the following:
Navy blue or yellow polo shirt, navy blue jumper, grey bottoms (skirt/trousers/pinafore/shorts), yellow summer dress, black, grey, navy or white socks/tights and black school shoes (not trainers), boots can be worn in adverse weather conditions and from November to February but all children must have black pumps within school. No jewellery should be worn except watch and stud earrings (these should be removed on PE days), no make-up (inc. nail varnish) and no outlandish hair styles or colours. Please bring in black pumps (with pupil name in each) to wear inside the academy building (this is compulsory).The academy PE kit for children is a white t-shirt and black shorts or black tracksuit bottoms and white long sleeved tops (Nov - February). This should be brought into the Academy on the Monday and left till Friday, children who do not have their kit three times in a row for after school club will lose their place on the club.
New uniform can be ordered by speaking to our academy secretary, Mrs Dalby or Miss VIncent, at our reception. Uniform that is ordered will be available for collection on the following Wednesday. If you are having hardships acquiring uniform please contact the Academy and assistance will be offered.
All academy meals are freshly prepared on the premises each day by highly trained caring staff, who are committed to improve the quality of life for scholars in the school through cooking and serving wholesome nutritious meals. Our catering facilities have once again been awarded the top grading for hygiene standards. From September 2015 academy lunches are free to all pupils in F2 and KS1. For KS2 pupils the price of a lunch is just £1.85. All meat is fresh UK reared as are all vegetables and salad. Our food is cooked using oven baking and steaming methods. Water is available every day. It is also suggested that each child bring a water bottle to school so they can stay hydrated.
All lunches must be paid for in advance (this usually being the Monday of each week) using the Parent Pay app (where you can also purchase uniform, and pay for educational visits) or by bringing cash to the main reception. We would encourage all pupils to stay in the academy during lunchtime as this is an important time for socialising with other children and will only allow children home for lunch under exception circumstance and in cooperation with parents/carers.
Milk and fruit
All children under 5 and those entitled to free academy meals will automatically get a carton of milk each day. If you do not qualify but would like to pay for milk then just ask at reception for a leaflet or go to www.schoolmilkuk.co.uk Children in FS1/FS2 and KS1 will also receive a free piece of fruit each day.
At the start of each academic year or if a child starts in-year, we ask both parents and child to read through and sign-up to our home/academy agreement. This sets out clearly the expectations that we have of the parents and child and the expectations that you can have of us. In addition we will check on several other things at least once a year to ensure that all information is up to date: contact details, lunch arrangements, permission to use image on the internet, permission for educational visits within a five mile radius, medical details etc. If any of this information changes in-year please do let the us know. It is particularly important that we are able to get hold of a parent/carer at short notice in the event of an emergency.
