This week's news - Friday 21st November

Post date: Nov 24, 2014 11:37:16 AM

Firstly a reminder that we have our parents/carers 'drop-in' session on Wednesday 25th November if you want any help at all with using Lexia and Maths Whizz - our two key educational software programmes. We will have some of our scholars around to give you a live demonstration and you will have the opportunity to try it out for yourself. If you are having any technical issues please do bring in your device and we will do our best to help you to access these programmes. In addition, if you have any more general questions about homework or indeed anything in the academy, this is an ideal opportunity to ask them. We will be holding the session between 15:00 an 17:00 and look forwarding to seeing you.

We are proud to announce that we made £112 for Children in Need last week and this amount was swelled by selling the Pudsey Bear faces kindly made by Mrs Geldard. A brilliant job done by everyone so a big thank you.

We have been informed by the Dept for Education that their representatives will be visiting the academy to ensure that we are doing all the right things. The visit will take place on Thursday 4th December. In many ways this is similar to an Ofsted visit in terms of format and importance, although it is technically different so we are still likely to be subject to a full Ofsted inspection in the next few months. If you have anything that you would like me to share with our visitors then please email me on wbaxter@meadsteadprimaryacademy - positive statements about any differences you have seen in the academy this year and how it has affected your children are particularly welcome.

A reminder that our new academy choir will be having its first performance on Monday 23rd November at 16:00 at The Wells in Royston when the Xmas lights are turned on. Please come out and support them if you can. They have also recently been asked to perform in the week before Xmas at one of our local residential homes.

Finally, we have an exciting opportunity to open a before and after school club within the academy. Although it would be run in our building it would actually be managed and led by an outside company. The emphasis of the club will be on providing high-quality childcare and this will be entirely separate to our free breakfast club where the focus is on family social time to eat breakfast together. We need initially to find out if there is enough interest from parents for us to move forward with setting up the club. To express an interest and get a parent pack or more information please contact Sam on 07508019430.
