Broadlands Academy from Keynsham among England’s best as they prepare for

    national schools’ football final

    ·         Broadlands Academy  to contest national final as part of PlayStation® Schools’ Cup Festival at Reading’s Madejski Stadium

    ·         Team competing for Under 15 Small Schools’ Trophy on Tuesday 19th May

    ·         Festival is the season finale of the PlayStation Schools’ Cup, which is the largest collection of schools’ football tournaments in England

Broadlands Academy from Keynsham will take to the hallowed turf of Reading FC’s Madejski Stadium as they bid to win the countrywide English Schools’ FA (ESFA) PlayStation® Under 15 Small Schools’ Trophy.

Broadlands Academy U15s will be part of the three-day PlayStation Schools’ Cup Festival, which runs from Monday 18th to Wednesday 20th May.  They will face Blacon High School from Chester on Tuesday 19th May, with the opportunity to be crowned the Under 15 Small Schools’ Trophy champions.

It is the second consecutive year that the Madejski Stadium has played host to the PlayStation Schools’ Cup Festival, which last year saw over 5,000 spectators attend and watch this feast of schools’ football. Hopes are high that this impressive figure can be surpassed this year and that even more friends, family and fellow pupils look to sample the carnival atmosphere with 15 schools’ finals being contested across the three days.

Before their match, all of the competing finalists will get the chance to use either the home or away dressing room at the Championship side’s state-of-the-art stadium as part of an authentic match-day experience.

Pupils from Broadlands Academy have been invited along to the event to support their friends and enjoy a number of activities including PlayStation®4 gaming experiences, free giveaways, half-time entertainment for spectators and live commentary for each game.

After being formed in September 2013, the partnership between PlayStation and the ESFA is now in its second season and has provided a boost to grassroots football and helped increase the engagement in competitive football for secondary school age categories.

A total of 19 PlayStation Schools’ Cup competitions have been staged in the 2014/15 season and have involved nearly 2,000 schools and 100,000 participants from Under 12 to Under 15 secondary school age categories. Since its inception, each new school involved in the competitions have received a PlayStation Kit Bag, featuring a match day football, training bibs and supporters’ flags to support their sports department.

Schools, players and parents can find out more about the project by logging on to the website: or

Principal's Welcome

Welcome to the Broadlands Academy website.

I am very proud to have been the Principal of Broadlands since January 2013, just after the school had converted to an Academy, with our sponsors the Academies Enterprise Trust (AET).

Broadlands is a fully inclusive Academy which has seen a dramatic improvement in outcomes for our young people over the last 2 years. Our recent GCSE results are above the national average and students are making better progress than ever before.

There have been many changes at Broadlands Academy, changes that our students and staff have fully embraced. New uniform and expectations regarding behaviour, new curriculum at KS3 and KS4, new timetable and raised aspirations for all at Broadlands. We ensure that all our students have every opportunity to be successful at whatever they choose to study, there is a wide range of extra-curricular activities for them to take part in and a dedicated team of support staff to help ensure that students can fully access all that is offered at Broadlands.
