 AES Social Studies Beliefs Statement

Philosophy Statement

Social Studies addresses the totality of the human experience. Students develop an understanding of and appreciation for the past, present, and future through critical analysis and interpretation of the human story. Social Studies prepares students to identify, understand, and work collaboratively to solve challenges facing our world. At AES, we believe it is the responsibility of all community members to be compassionate, global citizens who embody the values of justice, equality, and service to humanity.

At AES we believe social studies instruction is most effective when it:

fosters skills that are transferable across contexts and disciplines; develops critical analysis through the active engagement in content; offers opportunities for authentic inquiry; analyzes relationships between the past and present which shape the future; and integrates the instruction of reading, writing, and research.
