TRISTAN ADVANCES TO THE NATIONAL BEE IN WASHINGTON, DC IN MAY
Super Job Tristan!!! HMS is so Proud of You!!!
(This is the second year in a row that a HMS student has won the regional spelling bee)
To date, HMS students have completed a total of 164 community service hours which equals $1,640.00 for Donte’ and his family. We need LOTS more hours to meet our goal.
So, we are going to start offering some after-school community service opportunities. If you are interested, please sign up in the cafeteria. This Thursday, we will have two different service opportunities after school and we want you to attend. Mrs. Riggins and Mrs. Landes will be hosting Letters for Troops. Report to room #525 after school on Thursday to write letters of appreciation/motivation to the men and women serving our country.
Mrs. McCorkle and Mrs. Stecher will be hosting Caring for our Community. Sign up for room #629, if you want to make colorful dinner place mats, cards, and artwork to brighten the day of local nursing home residents, the ladies and children at Women’s Alternatives, and the men at the Christian Center. Sign-ups are limited to the first 10 students in each grade level. You may only attend if you are on the sign-up sheet located in the cafeteria on the Sparrow Club table. The Activity Bus will be available if you need a ride home. Remember every hour of community service you do equals $10.00 for Donte’ and his family.
Stay after school with Sparrow Club this Thursday and find your wings!

Attention All Students, Faculty, and HMS Community:
Get involved in doing community projects!!! One of our fellow students needs your help! HMS is starting up the Sparrow Club at our school. It is an organization that takes kids that want to help other kids who are in desperate need of some type of help.
Our Sparrow at HMS is Donte' King. Donte' was born with Spina Bifida and is in need of a Kidney Transplant.
The school had a service learning convocation on Thursday speaking to the sixth grade and the success academy students on the subject matter. The Madison County area organization is headed up by Amanda Byrd and Terry West. They have arranged to have a sponsor who will give $10.00 to Donte's family for every 1 hour donated to community service that is documented. The sponsors for Donte' are Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Sheehan & Family. Kristal McCorkle is the teacher who got these individuals to come to HMS and is spearheading the start of the club as club sponsor. The club is in the process of making T-shirts that will cost $11.00 and the proceeds of $5.00 will go to Donte'.
Donte' and his family were present to help initate the club. Please get a form like the one illustrated and donate your time to community service to help out Donte'. Everyone needs to get involved!!!!
Below is a link to a fundraising page where community members can go to pledge any $ amount to help us meet our fundraising goal for Donte' and his family. The money donated will then have to be earned by HMS students through community service. For every 1 hour of community service our kids do, $10 will be given to Donte'.
