How does the 1:1 Learning Experience look like? Examples of Learning

CyberWellness Leadership Programme

The ACS Gentlemen have been thinking about how to help others in danger of issues like Gaming Addiction, Internet Addiction, Cyberbullying and Social Media. See what they are saying:

On the 23rd May, the entire sec 1 level went out to ACS (Pri) to conduct a CyberWellness Exhibition for their Primary 4 juniors.
Here are the materials produced for the exhibition

The Green City Project

The Sec 1 cohort will be embarking on the Green City Project as part of a Mathematics assignment
They have to plan a green city and build models of buildings to scale.

Here are some pictures of the boys working on their project:

Mathematics - "The Singapore Tax System"

Use the income tax calculator found on IRAS website

Consider how the tax system affects the following 3 groups of Singaporeans
(1) Lower-Income
Mr Daglish is uneducated. He earns $900 a month. He has to pay 20% to cpf (take away 20% of his salary). He has 2 kids. His wife is not working due to health issues. They live in a 1 room flat.
(2) Middle-Income
Mr Tan is an executive. He earns $5000 a month. His wife takes care of the family. Mr Tan has to give 20% CPF. He has 2 kids. He takes care of elderly parents. He drives a car. He has a maid to take care of the elderly parent. They live in a 5 room flat.
(Median household income in Singapore is $5000)
(3) Higher-Income
Mr Ng works in the bank. He earns $8000 and his wife earns $5000. They only have 1 kid. They stay in a condominium.

Mathematics - "Discovering Angles"

Where: 1 Abraham classroom
Task: Record a short 1 min clip to explain angles
Learning: Metacognitive Processes. In the video, hear the boys explain the different angles. Through explaining, they are "thinking aloud".

Volcanoes and Earthquakes

Where: 1 Gideon classroom
Task: Research on Volcanoes and present their learning in a 1 page summary
Learning: Hear how the teacher is giving instructions in the video. The teacher is moving around asking questions and checking that students are moving in the right direction.

History: What is Government?

What is the role of government? Who is the government? How does the government affect you in your daily life? What do you think of when you think about the government?

Home Economics

Question: What is Transfat?

English Literature

Poem Gallery

Chemistry Module - "Materials"

YouTube Video of group 6

English - "Suspense"

Where: 1 Luke classroom
Task: Students have to enter into a Google Spreadsheet what they identify as suspense devices.
Learning: Collaborative Learning. Hear the students in the video asking " What is the EVIDENCE?". Through discussion, asking questions and then forming answers to the questions they ask, they form a deeper appreciation of how suspense devices are used in texts.

English - "Reading Aloud"

Where: 1 Elijah classroom
Task: Read a passage aloud and record their reading.
Learning: Self-Directed Learning. In the video, you see how a boy retreats to a corner of the school and records his own voice. I observe that the boy was replaying his recording and tries again until he is satisfied with his reading. This is one of the proud moment for me as a teacher to see our students engaged in learning. They feel empowered to learn.
