Today is the 40th day of school year 2019-20.  The first quarter grading period ends next Friday.  This year is moving at a rapid pace.

Pope John Paul High School in Slidell is hosting Open House tonight beginning at 6:15.  Students and their families from grades 5-7 are invited to attend. This is a great way to begin making a decision regarding your child’s high school education. ACS graduates have had tremendous success at PJP.  I strongly encourage you to visit tonight.

Father Bru and Jim will conduct Altar Server training tomorrow at 10:00 for interested Catholic students in grades 4-7.  This is an important ministry in our church. Please encourage your child to participate and make a commitment as a family to fulfill the obligation of serving at weekend Masses.

The annual ACS Pet Blessing is scheduled for Tuesday, October 8 at 2:15 PM.  All animals must be leashed or caged, and they must be accompanied by an adult.  This is one of the students’ favorite events every year. If the weather forecast is correct, it is supposed to be cooler next Tuesday.  So, it should be a fun opportunity for the students to introduce their pets to one another.

Starting Monday, students are permitted to wear any Washington Parish Fair shirt to school with their uniform bottoms and shoes. When we return from Fair Break, there will be dress variations every day until Halloween.  We are still finalizing events. You will receive an up-dated list of dates and clothes, and I will send daily reminders to help everyone know what we are celebrating day by day! Students look forward to Spirit Days. I know it drives parents crazy, but the children love to dress up!!

Navy ACS sweatshirts have arrived—just in time for cooler weather.  If you forgot to order ahead, we have a few extra in various sizes. PLEASE label the tag with your child’s name.  Lost shirts are a daily problem. If there is no name, we have a difficult time returning them. The lost pile is kept under the inside stairs.  You are always welcome to rummage through the pile to search for missing items.

ALL STUDENTS ARE TO BE DROPPED OFF IN FRONT OF THE SCHOOL IN THE MORNINGS.  There is no teacher on duty behind the building. Teachers are turning into and backing out of parking spaces, and Presbyterian Breakfast participants are not accustomed to dodging students on their parking lot.  It is a safety issue. We appreciate your cooperation. Your child’s health and safety are important to us.

Speaking of health issues, several Bogalusa doctors and nurses have reported that this is supposed to be a terrible flu season.  There are already reported cases in Bogalusa. Patients have been hospitalized from flu complications. Nurses from Our Lady of the Angels hospital will administer flu shots in the ACS library on Wednesday, October 9th beginning at 2:30.  Students must be accompanied by a legal guardian to obtain the vaccine.  Please take advantage of this opportunity. Just bring your current insurance card.
