Michael and Fran Guilding run independent private practices, working from their purpose–built consulting rooms at Wetherby Road, York.  The practice is close to the ring road on the west of side of York with easy access to Leeds and Harrogate.  There is a waiting room with its own toilet and facilities for clients to make their own drinks.  The driveway ouside the practice is kept free for client parking.

Fran offers couple and relationship counselling, counselling for children and young people, and family counselling.  In addition she has worked with individuals who have depression, anxiety, stress, low self esteem and those who have been abused or bereaved.

Michael offers individual counselling and psychotherapy covering stress, anxiety, panic, depression, low self-esteem, bereavement, abuse, trauma, and other less easily defined issues such as loss of energy, motivation and vitality.

Michael is a BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist with 24 years’ post-qualification experience. In his early years as a counsellor he worked for WPF Counselling North in Leeds, The Tuke Centre in York, and The Oakdale Centre in Harrogate.

He estabished his own private practice in 1997 and also worked within NHS Psychological Therapies Department as Practice Counsellor for the Tadcaster Medical Practice and the Jorvik Medical Practice in  York.  In 2004 he took up the post of Head of Counselling within NHS Psychological Therapies with responsibility for the recruitment and management of counsellors working within GP practices in the York and Selby areas.  In 2007 he also took on the management of the local Primary Care Mental Health Team.

He retired  from the NHS in 2011 and now works part-time in private practice.

Michael sees clients for  brief and medium-term work.   He works with a wide range of issues, with a particular interest in attachment and relationship problems, anxiety, depression  and trauma, and the recovery of motivation and vitality.   He also provides clinical supervision to other counsellors and psychotherapists and runs training workshops for therapists on understanding and regulating the biological fear system.

Update:

I currently have some vacancies for Clinical Supervision.  I would probably be of most help to therapists with a few years post-qualification experience, who would like to explore working with the Fear System and who would be interested in expanding on their core orientation and integrating an adult attachment model and an understanding of trauma.

See details of my new workshop for counsellors and psychotherapists "Fear and the Therapisthere.
