Cafeteria Project

Resource Force students presented as part of the statewide MassRecycle conference in April, 2013. Here's the powerpoint they shared about progress at AB:

Here's a chart showing the "before and after" information for how we handle the resource stream from our cafeteria. It portrays the dramatic change that's happened now that we are diverting organics and have improved the capture of recyclables in a big way:

Woot! Acton Patch posted a news video about our project!!!
Check it out here!!

We initiated a new layout for handling recyclables and trash in the ABRHS cafeteria on March 19, 2012. We're happy to report that the new layout is a BIG SUCCESS!

Recyclables: BOOSTED to 250% of PREVIOUS LEVELS!
Food Scraps: TO FARM FOR COMPOSTING
Napkins, soiled paper: TO FARM FOR COMPOSTING
Trash: REDUCED DRAMATICALLY - used to be 40 bags per day -- now only 6 bags per day including trays compacted by stacking

THE OUTCOME:
  • COST SAVINGS
  • SMALLER ENVIRONMENTAL FOOTPRINT
PLEASE COME JOIN OUR "RESOURCE FORCE" TEAM!  We welcome new students at any time!
We have created two new sorting stations
in the cafeteria for recyclables and compostables!

We've added new recycling cans to the hallways
that are capturing lots more recyclables.
