Hello R. J. Grey students and families!
It's SPRING-YAY and we are into our fourth rotation with Health/PE classes. The rotations for Health always fly by given we only have ~17 classes per term. This current rotation will come to a close the week before April vacation.
Seventh Graders are focusing on the concepts of Wellness, Communication and Nutrition, including some cooking. Students will be researching food groups and make Foodonyms, posters that include their food group written on the vertical and then all of the research they they found on the food group will be included in the poster beginning each sentence with a letter of the food group. We did this project in an earlier rotation last year and the students did a great job. The posters were very informative including information on: examples of foods found in the food group; nutrients we find in these foods; the health benefits of the food groups; amount an average 13 year old should eat daily; examples of serving sizes; interesting facts about the food group; and finally they found healthy recipes that used the food group. When we cook we will be making a Ginger Vegetable Stir-Fry. You can find a copy of the recipe under 7th Grade Recipes.
Eighth Graders have been researching new stretches and strength exercises to support their individual 2-week fitness programs. We are studying nutrients as well as foods to eat that will support our exercise routines.
