A statement from AFS teacher and robot enthusiast on why he supports the AFS Roobotics Club:

I was introduced to the competitions while helping at Chestnut Hill. There, as at AFS, we had a number of students who were willing to give time and energy to the program. They threw themselves into the preparation in a way that I've seldom seen from high school students. With no curriculum to guide them, only a problem to solve, they creatively engineered their way into several significant victories. The problem that students and mentors solve are not "canned," and students learn to appreciate and revel in the "real-world" problem solving that happens as a result. The enthusiasm that this generated has not been matched by anything I've done while a teacher. Despite its expense, the program, nationally, has gotten stronger. Industrial engineers get hooked, and find themselves volunteering.
