AADL Summer Game
A great way to motivate kids to read in the summertime is to participate in the Ann Arbor District Library's Summer Reading Game. Students can participate in the traditional way by reading 10 books (at K-5), or 5 books (at 6-8), and turning in their reading logs at any branch for a prize or a free book.
You can also take it to the next level by creating an account on the Summer Reading Game site and collecting codes from all over town. You will find codes at all of the branch locations (on an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper), as well as local businesses and events like Top of the Park. In addition, students can earn codes by participating in workshops or events at any library branch.
These codes can be used to earn points and can be redeemed at the Summer Reading Game store. They have lots of cool prizes like messenger bags, lunch bags, water bottles and more!
The AADL Summer Reading Game opens on the last day of school, Friday, June 14th.
Avoid Summer Slide - READ!
Research indicates that students who read at least 6 books over the summer halt traditional summer slide that occurs in the off-school months.
We at A2 STEAM strive to end summer slide and get our kids on path to becoming lifelong readers! Below are many resources for families looking for ways to keep students engaged in reading all summer long.
