Abiodun Atoloye and Beatrice Ogunba, Nigeria


Hello, my name is Abiodun Tolulope ATOLOYE. I am from Owan West in Edo State, Nigeria. I was born in the ancient city of Ibadan where I had both my Primary and Secondary School education. I later proceeded to Obafemi Awolowo Univeristy in 2001, where I earned a degree in Food Science and Technology in 2007. I also obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from Federal College of Education, Zuba, Abuja in 2010. I am currently enrolled in a masters program in Human Nutrition at the University of Ibadan. My future goal is to contribute towards reducing nutritional problems such as stunting, wasting, underweight and micronutrient deficiency in children. I enjoy singing and sewing dresses.

Hello, my name is Ogunba, Beatrice Olubukola. I am from Ilesa, Osun State, Nigeria, but grew up in Ede also in the same State where I had my Primary and Secondary School education. I later went to the then Oyo State College of Education Ilesa where I obtained my National Certificate of Education in Home Economics in 1987. I later gained admission to Obafemi Awolowo University where I graduated with a BSc. Degree in Home Economics (Foods and Nutrition) in 1994. My Masters (Human Nutrition) and PhD (Public Health Nutrition) degrees were obtained from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan Oyo State, Nigeria in 1998 and 2007. I have been working as an academic staff in Obafemi Awolowo University from 1995 to date. My future goal is to contribute to the reduction of underfive morbidity and mortality through behaviour change communication in Infant and Young Child feeding practices in Nigeria. In my free time I enjoy cooking and singing.



Our research title is: Evaluation of household food insecurity and its effects on nutritional status using GIS and

GPS technology in Akinyele Local Government, Ibadan, Nigeria.

The existing knowledge of food and nutrition security in Nigeria does not offer detailed
information to the household level at which greater understanding is required to help design
interventions that will change the unacceptable food insecurity. This study will be capturing
the socio-economic environment of the household to produce data set which will be used to
generate maps using GIS that will allow for new direction and a plan of action in Nutrition.

The objectives of this study are to:
i. identify causes and factors contributing to household food insecurity.
ii. define and evaluate the nutrition status of children.
iii. develop maps of the study using GIS and GPS.

We hope the reseach will help us to will help to build capacity in the use of GIS and GPS technology and also build a network among researchers and students and also help community leaders, stakeholders, policy makers and government in making decision about future nutrition intervention and initiative. This will help in alleviating poverty.
