Hi Fellow 17 Fireball Fans
This is my first attempt at a web page in several years so please be patient with me.
This site will be about the new 17 Remington Fireball cartridge recently released by Remington. I've been a 17 Remington fan for more years than I care to remember and I think this new round will be an even better round than that. I've been wanting to try the new chambering ever since I read the first article about it last year.
Just last week I finally found a Remington 700 SPS at the new Gander Mountain store in Huntsville AL. I bought it along with the only two boxes of shells they had and headed back home to my home in Lynchburg TN. Before dark I'd put a 4-16 power scope on it and sighted it in at the local range. For shooting groups I'll probably put my 24x Leupold or Redfield scope on top (those tiny holes are hard to see) but I like to break in a new gun by shooting a few furry targets first. Besides, I have to empty those factory shells before I can reload them.
In the coming weeks and months I intend to give it a good workout on the bench as well as the woods. I intend to use it for varmint hunting as a light carry gun with particular attention to coyotes, crows, groundhogs and South Dakota prairie dogs. The prairie dogs will have to wait until I can build up enough rounds to make it worth it. With only factory loads available right now, that could take a while at $28 a box. Hopefully Remington will start releasing brass for us reloaders soon.
I've started a links list on the left side of this page and will add to it as I find more information. I'll also add a link to my progress reports as they become available. If you find a link, or have one of your own, that you'd like posted here, drop me an email by clicking on the "Contact Me" link to the left and I'll try to add it. I'd like for this site to become a central location for folks to get information about the new Fireball. Information is pretty skimpy right now both in print and on the Web. Maybe we can fix that here. Maybe I can even figure out how to set up a forum here. If you've got ideas for the sight, I'm always open to suggestions.
