Lenora Rabbit Carrier – B.G.S., B.Ed., M.Ed., M.Ed
Superintendent, Siksika Board of Education
We have many exciting initiatives developing within the Siksika Board of Education. I am currently excited to share one of the many initiatives as Curriculum Coordinator for SBE, as our team of Siksika teachers, along with Ceremonial and Traditional Knowledge Keepers, community members and various stakeholders have led the pathway in local curriculum development on the history of the Siksika People. This includes a broad scope of historical and contemporary content in relation to the Treaty. The Curriculum project will be developed for the Kindergarten to grade 12 program in the Siksika Nation schools.
The Siksika Board of Education governance is also heavily involved in networking with the Blackfoot Confederacy Tribes, including Federal and Provincial education partners. It is our philosophy that the delivery of curriculum will build on the competencies of attitudes, skills and knowledge of the varying cognitive styles of learners, which is vital to higher education and the work force. Blackfoot culture, language, traditional and current worldview will remain in the forefront of educational curricula, pedagogy and governance of the Siksika Board of Education.
We, the Siksika Board of Education, are guided by the following values. All our decisions and actions will demonstrate these values. We believe that putting our values into practice will create long-term benefits for Siksika Nation and all our students we serve.
