Thursday April 4

Today we:

  • Discussed the issue of today's essay:
      • what is actual issue
      • what is the urgency of the issue
      • what are the problems associated with the issue
      • what are some solutions
  • Received the rubric for the essay with prompt---used notes from last night on writing a persuasive essay
  • Began writing essay

Homework:

  • Syllabus needs to be turned in tomorrow or it's late
  • Work on your essay TONIGHT (you will have 50 minutes to complete, PROOFREAD, Check it against the rubric, and print it in class tomorrow
  • Take a picture/video of an animal and write a 500-700 word observation report which includes: (Have this done by Monday)
      • Description of animal, species of animal, location and activities of animal (and pics of the surrounding environment), questions of inquiry you might want to look up later regarding that animal, and any other information and musings you might have whilst watching the animal---images and observation will be posted on your blog after we create it on Monday

Wed April 3

Today we:

  • Went over the notes from the article last night
      • How did the article demonstrate credibility?
      • What are some of the MAIN CLAIMS of the article
      • Can any of the claims be contested?
      • What are the most significant quotes?
      • Who is the intended audience?
  • Read another article: The Case Against Pets (Link here)
    • Annotated article and asked questions on the handout
    • Identified claims and determined our position in regards to those claims
    • Evaluated the credibility of the authors
  • Outlined what we want to cover in our persuasive essay that we begin writing tomorrow in class (looked at rubric)

Homework:

  • Get Syllabus signed
  • Watch the two videos below and take notes on them for your essay tomorrow---you'll need this info to write a good essay!

Tuesday April 2

Today we:

  • Learned about higher order thinking: Levels of Inquiry (see powerpoint)
  • Wrote a journal entry on a quote based on the powerpoint lesson (Turned in)

Homework:

  • Finish journal if you didn't in class today and get that turned in tomorrow
  • Read the following article: Health Benefits of Companion Animals Take 1 full page of notes...notes due tomorrow!!! Write down 2-3 quotes from the article (full sentences) that you found interesting or significant...We will discuss this at the beginning of the period tomorrow
  • Get syllabus signed
