We are also preparing for an in-school concert Feb. 17! Unfortunately we can't invite families because our gym will be maxed out with students. However, we will record the concert for families to view afterwards.

It is the 4th week of the new school year, and it has been wonderful to make music with you again! Students have been learning music through Seesaw activities and meeting with me live on Zoom. Despite the challenges of distance learning, there are still lots of opportunities to sing, dance, and explore music together.

Hello from my garage! School buildings are closed due to Covid 19, and we are transitioning to remote learning. I am making singalong and movement videos and compiling some resources for use at home, all of which can be found here. Also, now would be a great time to dust off that recorder and check out my the recorder resources in the Class Materials section.

Congratulations students on a great 1st semester and music assembly! Every grade did an excellent job performing music they had learned, including a special 5th grade song with voices and instruments called "Walk Beside Me".
Our musician of the month of Februrary is orchestral conductor Marin Alsop. She is now one of the world's top conductors, and one of her first orchestra jobs was here in Eugene.

3rd, 4th, and 5th grade just wrapped up a xylophone unit. They are putting together amazing group songs on the xylophones! Kindergarten has been learning a few songs by Ella Jenkins, and 1st and 2nd grade are playing hand drums.

Kindergarten and 1st grade have been enjoying new songs and movement games like "Gardner and Seed". 2nd and 3rd grade have been learning the song "Happy Day" by Trinidadian singer Asheba. 4th and 5th grade have been learning to play ukuleles!

It's been a great start to the 2019-2020 school year! In the next few days we will be purchasing lots of new instruments thanks to our generous grant from the Eugene Education Fund. Thank you EEF!

It is almost spring break! 4th and 5th graders are wrapping up a recorder unit, and K-3 has been learning several new circle dances.
The March musician of the month is Aretha Franklin, the "Queen of Soul"!

Congratulations on a wonderful music assembly last week! The whole school got together in a big circle in the gym. Each grade got to stand and perform a song they had been working on in class.
The February musician of the month is the Colombian band Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto. They are a multi-generational group that has been active for almost 90 years, and they won a Latin Grammy Award in 2007 for best folkloric album.

Students are back into the swing of things after winter break. We are gearing up for a whole-school music assembly at the end of the semester. Every grade will present one song, and we will perform a whole-school song as well!
The musician of the month is "You" the students! This month is about celebrating our own music-making.

Students are wrapping up week 8 of the school year! Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade have learned many songs, including songs in Swahili and Spanish. They have also played hand percussion instruments and used the school's new bass bars. 2nd and 3rd grade have started to play xylophones. 4th and 5th grade are wrapping up a ukulele unit.

Also, the school has purchased two new bass bars! These are big xylophone bars that make a deep bass sound. They can be used by all students in the school. They were purchased with 2017 Jog-a-thon funds. Thank you Adams community!
