Transportation

In anticipation of school opening in September, we will be implementing a number of procedures, and also training bus drivers and attendants on proper health hygiene protocols. All school buses will be cleaned and disinfected at the end of each day, and all high contact areas will be cleaned after each AM and PM run. Although transportation staff will be provided access to hand sanitizer in locations, such as dispatch offices, employee break rooms, bus yards and garages, there will be no hand sanitizer available on any of our school buses, due to its combustible composition as pursuant to SED guidance. Drivers and attendants will also be instructed not to carry personal bottles of hand sanitizer with them while they are on the school bus. Our transportation service will also adhere to the following:

  • Daily office cleaning and disinfecting

  • Common areas to be limited to 50% of available seating or use

  • Office signage posted regarding CDC/bus company guidelines

  • Physical distancing enforced

Necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves, masks, and face shields will be provided to all transportation staff. Transportation staff will be trained on the proper use of physical distancing and the proper use of PPE and be required to wear face masks when on the school bus. Bus monitors that have direct physical contact with students will be required to wear gloves, masks, and face shields. Additionally, transportation staff will be trained to recognize the signs and symptoms of COVID-19. They must also self-certify that they are fit for work each day and are instructed to let management know when they are not feeling well.

Students will also be required to wear masks on the school bus and will be provided a mask if they do not have one. No student will be denied transportation, even if they have a medical condition that prevents them from wearing a face mask on the school bus pursuant to SED guidance. Students will be trained and then reminded daily to wear their masks and practice physical distancing on the school bus, and to recognize the signs and symptoms of COVID-19. Our transportation service will also provide signage for the use of masks and physical distancing on all buses for students and staff. Siblings will be instructed to sit together utilizing space within the school bus efficiently, as we physically distance students as much as possible on the bus. Additionally, our transportation service will keep the bus windows open by one inch to allow for ventilation on buses without air conditioning.

Transportation will be provided to all students within the school district who attend nonpublic schools or whose Individualized Education Program have placed them out of the district, when those schools are conducting in-person education, even if the district is not.

A transportation survey will be issued in mid-August that will seek family feedback regarding busing services.
