Before and After School Aged Child Care

The School Age Child Care (SACC) program will be available to children of single or dual-working parents/guardians in grades Pre-K-6 at each of the five district elementary schools. The program will operate before school beginning at 7:30 a.m. and after school until 6:00 p.m. Parents may register for morning and/or afternoon care five days per week; the program is limited to full-time care in order to maintain stable student cohort groups. Student cohorts will be supervised at a ratio of one staff member to 10 children. Whenever possible, groups will be assigned to the same staff person daily and siblings will be kept together. Additional support staff will be provided to meet the needs of children with special needs. Enrollment will be determined by the space assigned to the program and ability to maintain physical distancing within that space.

Transportation is not provided to and from the SACC program. Parents are expected to drop off their child(ren) in the morning and pick up outside the building at the end of the program. Parents/guardians will not be permitted to enter the program. Temperature taking and screening will be done daily by parents using a district provided screening tool before bringing their child to SACC in the morning. Child care staff will also be required to complete daily screening.

The program will operate out of the portable classrooms located on the grounds of each of the elementary schools. Additional space within each building, such as the cafeteria and gym will also be utilized. Signage and physical distance markers will be placed throughout the SACC buildings. All students will be required to wear masks regardless of physical distancing parameters except during meals. Those with medical documentation would be provided an exemption, pursuant to state guidance. We will also provide opportunity for mask breaks, as needed in a manner that is safe and abides by physical distancing guidelines. Masks, gloves, wipes, and sanitizers will be readily available.

Before school, children will arrive at SACC and a greeter/security guard will escort the child from the parent’s car to the SACC building. At the conclusion of the morning program children will be escorted to their classroom following the physical distancing and directional markers.

At the end of the school day, children attending SACC will be escorted by SACC staff in their cohort groups from their classrooms and will move through the building following the physical distancing and directional markers.

In order to be able to maintain physical distancing during snack time, individual snacks will be served in the cafeteria. This location will allow children to remove their masks to have a snack. The children will then move to the SACC building where they will remain until their parent/guardian arrives to pick them up.

When a parent arrives to pick up their child, they will call the program to alert them of their arrival and a greeter/security guard will escort the child to the parent’s vehicle.

The SACC program will follow all guidance related to health and safety from the State Education Department, CDC, and DOH. The district will disinfect and sanitize large areas between morning and afternoon programs, as well as each night. Hand washing will be essential and children will be instructed on proper hand washing technique and reminded often to do so. Staff and children must perform hand hygiene immediately upon entering the program, upon arrival to first program activity, between all program activities, after using the restroom, before and after eating and before leaving the program. Hand sanitizers will be readily available inside the building and outside by the play areas.

Individualized activities, materials and supplies for arts & crafts, projects etc. will be promoted daily. Children will be given self-contained supplies/materials sealed for their individual use. Only materials and equipment that can be disinfected and sanitized will be shared. Shared equipment/materials will be sanitized between group and or student use. Children will not be permitted to bring any toys from home. Outdoor activities will be emphasized daily as long as weather permits. Indoor play using the gym will be individual without physical contact and physical distance will be maintained.
