One in six people will experience major depressive disorder or depression at some point in their life. Depression is categorised by a wide range of factors including commonly being in a bad mood, lack or excess of sleep and difficulty thinking. Depression also leads to behaviours labelled as laziness and 'being anti-social'. With effects like this, it is no doubt that depression is a bad experience but depression isn't a randomly occurring disorder. What causes depression and more importantly how can we help people to stop feeling depressed?

Everyone talks about mental health being such an increasing issue in this generation, how many people have turned ‘soft’ and decided it's because of their mental health. This is a hard concept to grasp for many of the older generations, but that is because they haven’t survived the last five years in our day and age as teenagers. Our lives revolve around social media, school and most recently mthe pandemic. These three factors have ultimately been the cause of such an increase in mental health issues and how many teenagers don't know it yet, but everyone soon will.

What is a positive mindset and can anyone have one? There are a few qualities needed in order to have a positive mindset and you can’t just magically develop one overnight. My project explores the path towards a positive mindset that anyone can achieve. Hopefully you can also reap the benefits of having a positive mindset and come closer to having control over arguably the most important organ in your body, The Brain.

Procrastination: delaying, putting it off, finding distractions, just not feeling like you want to get it done… Almost all of us have felt this at some point, during stressful times, everyday, or just now and again. It can become an obstacle, getting in the way of achievement. Despite so many of us facing procrastination, I still find it all a bit of a mystery. Why does procrastination occur? Does everyone face it? What factors affect it? Throughout my project, I will explore the causes of procrastination, the factors affecting it and delve into the boundaries of what is considered procrastination, finding out what is actually happening in the human brain during procrastination.

Why do protests happen? What leads people to suddenly band together in the name of an agreed-upon cause? How do modern protests such as BLM gain traction so quickly? These are questions some may be pondering due to the social unrest that has occurred in our society recently, such as the COVID-19 protests. Exploring the history of social protest, the methods, the reason, the successes and the failures, I am looking at social media and technology and it’s impact on the amplification, censorship and repression of protest as we move into another period of significant global unrest.
