This project explores the exploitation of idols in the K-Pop industry and the trainees that are preparing to debut;. From the treatment they receive from the company staff, managers, and CEOs, to the expectations of their fans about how they should look and behave. What is done to ensure they meet unrealistic ‘beauty standards', fulfil performance requirements and produce cashflow for their sponsors? What are the consequences of the strict regimes forced upon them? More and more young people from all over the world are becoming influenced to become Kpop idols. What are the long term consequences for these young adults and adolescents?

Art and technology may seem like they are completely unrelated, but they have hidden links. Have you ever wondered what influences the creation of new art movements? Why do particular art techniques pop up at particular times in history? Technology may be the answer to these questions. Our project dives into this fascinating link between the development of modern visual arts movements and the invention of new technologies, through the lens of history and society.

Have you been looking for independent artists? Do you feel like the music you listen to has lost its spark? The music industry is known for being exploitative and this has only been amplified by streaming services like Spotify. Music labels have too much control over their artists, and streaming services provide them with even more. This is even harder for Australian musicians, as our arts program is notoriously underfunded. I’m working to solve this problem for Australians and create a streaming service that independently pays their artists and doesn’t swallow them in an increasingly hungry, internationally focused algorithm.

Why are we so obsessed with Influencers? What is it doing to our brains? In this project I ask just that. My project explores the techniques influencers are using to grab and hold our attention, as well as the negative impacts that come with falling into the trap of the media. I explain ways to avoid getting caught up in the depths of social media and propose activities more beneficial for growing teenage brains.

We are exposed to thousands of advertisements every day, all creating a strain on our focus and our mind. What exactly causes us to be so easily swayed by advertising and how much of our thinking is actually our own?
