Resume [PDF]       Email: jaragon@aya.yale.edu       LinkedIn: @ja536

I am an experience project manager and data nerd. I completed my degree in Geology & Natural Resources in 2017 at Yale University, where I passionately worked out insights to some of Earth's longest standing physical science mysteries through the acquisition and interrogation of large datasets.

I am honored to have been chosen as a Mellon Early Identification Summer Research Fellow, Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Summer Undergraduate Research Fellow, and worker in the observational seismology lab of Professor Maureen Long, where I learned the value of programming skills in the field of data analysis and visualization.

My work was awarded the Yale-Eastwing Senior Thesis Prize and a publication in the American Geophysical Union's Geochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems. Show more research. . .

Leadership

I am proud to have served as the Vice President of the student body of Palomar Community College, President of the Eli Whitney Student Society at Yale, and presenter at the 2011 Leadership Alliance National Symposium. During my tenure at Yale I worked to organize the first-ever Inter-Ivy conference for non-traditional students at Ivy League colleges (pictured).

Project Management

As a Project Manager for Professor Maureen Long, I helped managed Yale's SEISConn and MAGIC experiments. This has given me the opportunity to site, design, and develop seismic observatories across Connecticut, Ohio, West Virginia, and Virginia. We are proud to have recorded the highest resolution broadband transect of the Mid-Atlantic Appalachians and Northern CT to date.   Show more projects. . .

Research

My studies at Yale University focused on Natural Resources and Energy Transitions, and my Senior Thesis with Professor Maureen Long was a three year geophysical project aimed at identifying structure and deformation in the deep Earth through the analysis of seismic data acquired by the Yale-run Mid-Atlantic Geophysical Integrative Collaboration Seismic Network.  Show more research. . .

Entrepreneurship

Before pursuing a college degree I was the co-Founder of John David Equipment, which provided heavy equipment and engineering products to grading and excavation firms in Southern California. I also founded John Aragon Flooring, a company that installed over 1 million square feet of flooring covering products in commercial and residential projects.  Show more projects. . .

Creativity

I am a skilled carpenter and technician. I have Installed custom flooring designs in 5 states, and produced custom built Tomos mopeds by commission.

What people are saying!

John Aragon is one of the most impressive undergraduate students I have interacted with in nine years at Yale University. He worked with me closely for about three years, including on his senior thesis research and as a project manager and technician on two field seismology experiments. He is independent and motivated and has exceptional problem-solving skills. --Maureen Long, Professor at Yale University
