About Me:

Hello, my name is Courtney Boom! I am the English Language Learners teacher for Preschool - 12th Grade students. Originally, I grew up on my parents’ farm outside Lester, IA, meaning that I attended West Lyon too! Upon high school graduation, I went to South Dakota State University for History Education.

In 2014, I began working as the Transition Alliance Program Specialist for Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services. I traveled around to five different school districts (Sioux Center, Boyden-Hull, Rock Valley, Central Lyon, and West Lyon) in order to help students determine their career versus college pathway upon their high school graduation.

In 2015, I was hired at West Lyon for my current position. I also entered the Morningside College Graduate Program for a Master’s in Education with an emphasis in English as a Second Language. I graduated in June 2019.

In addition to a K-12 ELL endorsement, I also am licensed to teach K-8 Reading, 5-12 Reading, 5-12 American Government, 5-12 American History, 5-12 World Geography, and 5-12World History.

In my spare time, I enjoy running outdoors, reading novels, traveling domestically and internationally, and being with my family.
