Botanist Designers

Join us for an AMAZING adventure into the world of plants! Together we will explore how people, animals and plants connect historically, individually and in communities. Learners will explore the idea of gardens and design innovative garden spaces that draw fellow citizens into the environment as well as the study the essentials of plant life and explore the different processes of growing plants. 

Coastal Ecology

Students who choose this Expedition will study the North Carolina coastal region.  You will explore islands, sea life, ecosystems, and weather patterns.  Coastal Ecology is a wonderful experience for future marine biologists!

Natural Disasters

Have you ever wondered how some of Earth's natural features can be so powerful?  Sometimes so powerful that they can be disastrous!  Natural disasters can happen all over the world from the oceans to the skies and all the land in between.  In this expedition you will investigate how these disasters occur.  You will then be able to take all of your knowledge and learn ways to help protect yourself and your family in case a disaster strikes!


The Secret Life of Water

Did you know that the water we drink today has been around in one form or another since before dinosaurs roamed the Earth?  How does that happen?  Do you know the difference between drinking water and wastewater?  How do we affect our water supply?  Get answers to these questions and more in The Secret Life of Water

Entomology for Everyone

Do you love learning by doing? How would you enjoy using our outdoor classrooms to explore and search for different insect species? Have you ever found a living thing and wondered if it was an insect or not? What insects do you think you may discover living in your community?  Beetles, dragonflies, damselflies, flies, crickets, grasshoppers, moths, centipedes, spiders and scorpions are just a few! Entomology for Everyone is your chance to explore all of these creatures and more!

Farm to Table

Are you willing to try new things?  Do you like learning outdoors?  Have you ever grown your own food? Would you love the opportunity to try?  Do you enjoy sharing your thoughts and ideas with others?  Then Farm to Table is for you!  In this course, students will create a podcast all about their experiences from growing their own food all the way to preparing and sharing it!  

Take me to a National Park

Have you ever visited a US National Park?  Would you like to find out more about the animals and habitats that live in these parks?  Do you wonder what it would be like to be a Park Ranger in a park?  If you answered yes to any of these questions then Take me to the US National Parks is for you!  This expedition will explore several US National Parks and their ecosystems.  By the end of the course you will be able to earn a Junior Ranger Digital badge  by completing online activities targeted  for students in the upper grades. 

My Wonderful Body Machine

Ever wonder what makes up YOU? Through experiments and research you will learn  what you are made of and how each system in your body works. You will also learn  how the many systems of the body work together to allow you to run, jump, breath, and feel. Join us on a journey to explore our human body systems.



TREEmendous


Come join us on a journey of the largest and oldest living things on Earth-trees! In this Expedition students will gain an understanding and appreciation of trees and forests in their lives. They will study conservation strategies and the necessity for ecological balances in nature. 




Eco TV


Be a part of our school's daily news! In this expedition, students will learn all of the elements of successful video production--researching, writing, and recording. Our Ecology-TV program will include segments about our environment, a variety of science topics, interviews and current events. Students will work collaboratively to create a cohesive news program.




4H Explorers


Do you want to get a chance to collaborate with other students just like you throughout North Carolina?  4H Explorers will be an opportunity to participate in the nationally recognized 4H program through  experimentation, inquiry and investigation.  This course will focus around vermicomposting, bees and their hives and your bodys natural ecosystem.  At the completion of this course students will be awarded a 4H leadership certificate from our local North Carolina 4H extension office.


Treasures From Earth

This expedition combines a scientific study of rocks and minerals with information on how these substances are used to stimulate the economy. Hands-on explorations, collaboration with geological experts, and an authentic opportunity to create, market, and sell a mineral-based product, gives students a greater understanding of rocks and minerals, their uses in our communities, and economics.

Weather Watchers

Do you ever notice the different ways that weather affects our everyday lives?  Everything from what we do, where we go and what we wear!  In this course you will get the opportunity to be an investigator of weather by collecting, predicting and analyzing weather patterns and climate cycles.  Through hands on experimentation and projects you will learn the functions of weather all around us.

Mammals are Amazing

Would you like to become a natural born mammalogist through your study of mammals?  Did you know there are between 5,400 and 5,500 species of mammals alive today? In this course you will get to explore these animals and learn how they live and adapt to the every changing world around them.
