Why Buy Homemade Extract?
Whether you are baking chocolate chip cookies, whipping up frosting, making French toast, or doing any other kind of baking, the vanilla extract you use makes a big difference! Made with only organic vanilla beans, vodka, and time, our extracts have a deeper, bolder, and richer flavor than the extracts you would find in a store.
Vanilla bean caviar
If you've ever watched a cooking show where they scrape the inside of a vanilla bean with a knife, they are removing what's called the "caviar" of the vanilla bean. While store-bought extracts filter this caviar out to use again, we leave them in the extract, which brings additional flavor to your dishes. You will see this caviar as specks in your extract. Simply swirl your bottle before measuring out what you need to distribute the caviar throughout the liquid.
more time
With homemade, the flavor is drawn out with a cold-extraction method that takes 6 to 12 months to fully draw out all of the flavor compounds located in the oils and in the caviar of the bean. In the store, you are either buying alcohol and a synthetic vanilla flavor called vanillin or alcohol plus "vanilla bean extractives," which are made with a heat-extraction method that works very quickly but destroys some of the flavor compounds.
singular, known origin
With our homemade extract, you are getting organic beans only from Madagascar. In the store, each brand has their own blend of vanilla bean extractives, which are a crushed vanilla bean paste made from a mixture of beans from various/unknown regions. A singular origin gives a stronger flavor profile to the extract.
fewer ingredients
Our extracts are made to FDA standards for strength for "100% pure" vanilla extract: 13.35 oz of organic grade B (extract grade) vanilla beans in 1 gallon of premium 80 proof vodka. No added water, sugar or other fillers ever.
